Have you recently had unprotected sex? Or maybe you used protection but haven’t been feeling well lately. There is a possibility you could be pregnant. Usually, the first sign of pregnancy is a missed period, but you can skip a period for many reasons. Take a look at some of the other common early pregnancy symptoms.
1. Late Period
Every month, the lining of a woman’s uterus thickens to prepare for a possible pregnancy. If she doesn’t become pregnant, her body sheds the lining and starts over the next month. If pregnancy occurs, the fertilized egg implants in the lining, and she no longer has regular periods until after the birth of her baby.
If your periods are irregular, it can be hard to know whether you’re late or you’re pregnant. A hormone imbalance, excessive exercise, rapid weight gain or loss, and stress can also cause a change in your menstrual cycle.
2. Tender, Swollen Breasts
Another early pregnancy sign is sore breasts. Hormonal changes in your body cause your breasts to grow in size and feel more tender.
3. Nausea With or Without Vomiting
Known as “morning sickness,” this symptom can occur at any time of the day or night. A flood of pregnancy hormones most likely causes the nausea.
You can even have food cravings and aversions. You may become more sensitive to certain odors, and your sense of taste may change.
4. Increased Urination
The blood in your body increases during pregnancy, causing your kidneys to process extra fluid in your bladder. A pregnant woman takes many more trips to the bathroom than usual.
5. Fatigue
Again, hormones may explain why a woman feels so tired at the beginning of her pregnancy.
6. Moodiness
A woman’s body undergoes many changes, which can cause her to be moody, overly emotional, and weepy.
7. Light Spotting
Light spotting occurs when the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. This is called implantation bleeding. It usually happens around the time you expected your period to start.
